Death of Elżbieta Zapolska Chapelle
A few months after the publication of the proceedings of this last colloquium, on September 20, 2020, Elżbieta Zapolska Chapelle, president of the Maria Szymanowska Society and initiator of the project Maria Szymanowska (1789-1831), a Woman of Europe, passed away. Until the end, Elżbieta will have worked to promote this first Polish composer-concertist, adored by her time. Like she said to Filip Lech on August 26, 2020 during an interview for the Mickiewicz Institute, a month before her death, Elżbieta had relaunched an editorial project in the form of an anthology of writings on Maria Szymanowska based on the four international conferences she had organized over the past decade.
This project constitutes the matrix of the Cahiers Maria Szymanowska, a biannual journal of the Maria Szymanowska Society, the first issue of which was published in October 2021.
